Dogen Zenji's "To Study the Way"

To study the Way is to study the self. To study the self is to forget the self. To forget the self is to be actualized (enlightened) by the myriad things. When actualized by the myriad things, your body and mind as well as the bodies and minds of others drop away. No trace of enlightenment remains, and this no-trace continues endlessly.

Welcome to the Single Stone Sangha Website

Single Stone is a small Zen sangha in the Toronto Zendo and Moon Mountain lineage of the broader Sanbozen tradition. Though we are based in Belleville, Ontario, most of our activity is online, where we meet by Zoom for zazen meditation and Dharma talks.

Bill Tomlinson began his study of Zen with Yamada Kôun Roshi in Kamakura, Japan, in 1973, eventually becoming authorized as a Zen teacher under Dragan Petrovic of the Moon Mountain lineage of Sanbozen.

Why Zen?

The word “Zen” means introspective meditation. Zen practice enables us, over time, to come to a realization of our fundamental Self, and of the fact of our unity in emptiness with all that is. With this realization comes true freedom as we make our way through this ordinary/extraordinary life.
